Food Issues

Food like so many other substances is a problem when it is used as attempt to self soothe. Often people use food to try and regulate feelings, sometimes without even being conscious of what they are trying to accomplish. Therapy will help tease out what the feelings are behind overeating, often to the point of binging and purging. Binging and purging has nothing to do with being “lazy,” wanting to eat but not gain weight, as many clients initially describe. When I talk with you about your life and triggers (events that cause emotional reactions), your specific dynamics come into focus in a way that we can then work to apply coping mechanisms instead of previous self destructive methods such as binging and purging.
